Our Past
and Future

I know I am making you
scroll down to the
exciting future services
in the works.

Our Mission is to provide residents located in populated areas and the back forty, High Speed Internet (25 Mbps and up), Satellite TV and Medical Alert services. We utilize new technologies that transcend terrestrial communications that are limited by cables and towers. Build customer relationships by providing prompt, local support. Our priority is never about how many systems we can install each day. Our focus is on taking our time, making sure each job is done right, one client at a time.
Team Northwoods Communications is Bringing More to the Back Forty!!!

2000
After the turn of the Millennium, Michael Harris started out installing antennas, surround sound systems and even VCR's. We were the authority on HD antenna service. Michael Harris trained at WEAU TV 13 when their first HD Channel #39 was going online in Fairchild, WI. The tower was 2,000 feet high allowing us to install double boom 15 foot long antennas getting customers as far north as Ojibawa and Winter Wisconsin their first free HD TV signal. Back then you had to have a $400 HD converter box and an HD Ready TV. Today they are built in.

2003
Directv started allowing locals with their service. This pretty much put the kibosh on antenna sales and service. We took advantage of the change and started working for Chippewa Valley Satellite. We helped add locals for almost 3,000 customers in Chippewa and Rusk County. That is when we entered the Directv business.

2005
WildBlue rolled a satellite based internet service. WildBlue was the first two-way satellite internet service. Previous companies required you to have a dial-up phone line to upload data. WildBlue offered download speeds up to 1.5 Mbps and 256 Kbps upload. Data limits where 7.5 Gbs to 25 Gbs over a rolling 30 day period. It was a great service but as more content grew online more bandwidth was needed to handle it.

2014
WildBlue was bought out by Viasat. Viasat rolled out a new service call Exede. Exede had download speeds up to 12 Mbps service. With Exede's blazing fast speeds, no longer did videos buffer and downloads took only seconds. Today we have seen speeds up to 43 Mbps using the Exede Boost Modem. We can also offer the freedom of 150 Gbs of data per month.

2016
We designed a new segment of service to offer with That Button Thing. That Button thing is a medical alert service. You know "that button thing" you push if you fall down or get stuck in the couch and need help. It allows piece of mind and that much needed independence. Help is just a button push away. You can customize That Button Thing to call up to 5 local friends, neighbors and family to help out before EMS .

February 2017
Hughesnet Gen5 was launched in Q4 of 2016 and with the new roll out of satellite service becoming available in April 2017, we wanted to roll along with it. HughesNet Gen5 uses a new larger satellite. EchoStar XIX, the world’s highest-capacity broadband satellite, will power HughesNet® Gen5, the next generation of America's #1 high-speed satellite Internet service. HughesNet Gen5 will deliver more speed, more data and more advanced features for consumers and small businesses.

Quarter 2 , 2017
We added Dish Network to our list of services.  This will complete our goal to provide a variety of the best TV and Internet services available to our customers. The Hopper 3 is pretty cool and the Voice Remote is awesome!

Quarter 1 , 2018
Q1 will bring the Viasat - 2 service. Viasat's next huge upgrade. It is really exciting watching Hughesnet and Viasat compete bringing us faster and better services with each new launch.

Updated
Viasat has Unlimited plans with speeds in some areas up to 100 Mbps. Honestly I really cannot wait for the prices to drop. A little expensive in some locations. Not all, depends where you are. Hughesnet is still technically a limited plan setup with plans from 10 to 50 GB per month and a bonus zone.
2020 is when we will start to get updates on the launch of Viasat-3 and the next Jupiter Satellite for Hughesnet. I think it is going to be awesome.

Quarter 1-2, 2018
Smart Home Technology has grown leaps and bounds. Now that most addons are wireless it is time for us to offer this service to our customers. All support, billing, and monitoring will be handled right here through us just like or Medical Alert Services.  We have to get licensed and trained in Quarter 1 of 2018 and then we will be ready to deploy our new services.

February 20, 2018
We launched our Vehicle Tracking and Security Monitoring Service. TNC Security is our brand for Smart Home and Security Services. We built up a large array of products and services to provide security and smart home services to residents and small businesses around Northwestern Wisconsin.

Quarter 3, 2018
AT&T Mobility
(Cellular Service) will be offered through us. We can make it a seamless transition for customers that want to switch to AT&T Cellular service and get the benefits of Directv in one location. Vice Versa if you have AT&T already, we can add Directv to your account. With AT&T Unlimited Premium Service you can a discount on your Directv service and Free HBO or any other premium of your choice (Starz, Showtime, Cinemax, HBO). No more having to get service from us and then sign up for AT&T elsewhere.

Waiting for:
The upcoming satellite internet launches of Viasat and Hughesnet in 2020 and 2021.

Viasat will be launching 3 satellites to wrap the globe at 1 Terabyte each. Compared to Wildblue was a 2 gigabyte satellite.

Hughesnet I believe is going with more smaller low orbiting satellites. 760 in all wrapping the globe in a lower latency option to help out VPNs and online gaming. These will not be geostationary like the satellites at 22,400 miles from the equator. These will move. Be interesting......

TNC Security is waiting for Honeywell's new smart hub. Help us remove the old Vista Panels from homes for a more integrated platform. Personally not a big fan of Visat panels and the millions alike. Not modern by any means. Ready for something cool and user friendly.
